IRS Expands Rules for Mid-Year Election Changes Under Cafeteria Plans

On Sept. 18, 2014, the IRS issued Notice 2014-55, which expands the situations in which individuals can change their health coverage elections under a Section 125 cafeteria plan. Notice 2014-55 addresses cafeteria plan elections in two specific situations related to the availability of coverage through a Health Insurance Exchange. Annual Medicare Part D Notices Are Due by Oct. 14, 2014

Group health plan sponsors must provide the annual Medicare Part D creditable coverage disclosure notices to Medicare-eligible individuals before Oct. 15, 2014—the start date of the annual enrollment period for Medicare Part D.
